FedotovReeds have a long history dating back to the middle of the previous century, being closely connected with several generations of clarinet players from the Fedotov family that was long and well-known in the professional community in Russia and overseas. The product branded as FedotovReeds has been produced since 2007. By developing this product we took into consideration the wide practical knowledge of honored performers and teachers combining it with original as well as accurate engineering ideas.
For the manufacture of FedotovReeds we buy only the cane that is grown in the south of France. Its wood is characterized by reliability, high quality, a special density, and a resilient texture that allow bright but at the same time warm sounds.
Upon delivery every new batch of canes undergoes random quality control by producing a small number of reeds. Only in case the quality of the sample is confirmed, the cane is used in the production process. Furthermore, every production stage of FedotovReeds involves thorough quality control.
Cane tubes are split into segments. The ones that have even minor defects are discarded. The best segments are cut into pieces and sorted out again, and then they go into a machine for making plates. After another careful inspection the pieces with minimal defects, for example curved fibers, are discarded.
After making templates – preliminary slicing – the selected plates are sent to a profiling machine with controlled gradation up to thousandths of a millimeter.
Sharpened reeds are measured on a special device to test their resistance to bending. The reed number is determined depending on its weight according to the original table. The cuts of the reeds are trimmed. The reeds that were sorted out are sent to a warehouse where they are stored under the controlled conditions of temperature and air humidity.
After each reed has undergone multiple quality control tests and has been originally shaped and profiled by a professional, the brand name is engraved on top with a laser engraver. Then each reed is carefully packed into an individual packet.
Then reeds are hermetically sealed pairwise and put into brand-named boxes with an elegant FedotovReeds signature.
